Several years ago I noticed signs along some roads in the Twin Cities called the Great River Road. Turns out this is route that follows the Mississippi river from its headwaters at Lake Itasca in Minnesota all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. I’ve considered adding it to my list of road trips and this year (2025) I’ve finally pulled the trigger. I’m departing on September 13th traveling down the western bank of the river and returning up the eastern bank returning on or around September 25th. I have a rough itinerary in mind but am am leaving things open depending on how the routing goes. This will go down as my least planned road trip ever.
